Ch'ang Fei Yi-te
A tippler -- if a phrase can describe his character, it is. Literally he was frequently soaked in drink, letting it take control. This vice of his caused most mistakes of his -- and his death. Usually he was harsh against his soldiers, but a drink accelrated his violence. Drunk heavily, he gave a whipping to two men, and was killed in his sleep by them by revenge.
But he was really faithful to his monarch, Liu Pei, and greatly contributed to his achieving his ambition. And he respected K'ung-ming,about twenty years younger than he, as an excellent strategist, and, -- though looking curious -- he loved his soldiers in his own way.
He was stouthearted and brave and powerful. I think we should have a soft spot for him.
